Ghatam Suresh Vaidyanathan is a top ranked GHATAM and multi-percussion artiste internationally acclaimed and respected for his in-depth knowledge of Indian rhythm and technical supremacy. Working in the company of renowned drummers and musicians in world music and jazz genres besides carnatic music for many decades, Suresh has acquired the rich experience and authentic knowledge of the International music systems.

Suresh has had his tutelage under illustrious gurus like Shri T R Harihara Sharma, Sri T H Vinayakram, Sri T V Gopalakrishnan and Sri Umayalpuram Narayanaswamy Iyer – all legends in their own respect.

As a ghatam player Suresh has gained preeminence and Star value with his unique fingering techniques, sound modulation in robust solos and aesthetic accompaniment. He is also proficient in a variety of Indian percussion instruments like, mridangam, kanjira, tavil, konakkol and morsing and a few Latin percussions.

He has performed in the company of Dr Balamurali Krishna, Alla Rakah, Zakir Hussain, T V Gopalakrishnan, Guru Karaikkudi Mani, Umayalpuram Sivaraman, Ronu Muzumdar, A Sivamani, Taufiq Qureshi Bickram Ghosh top musicians of India and Paul Grabowsky, Adrien Sherief , Sandy Evens, Carola Grey, Pete Lockett, George Brookes, Paolo Cimminno, Taffa Cissé, Alisandro Tomasitti, Greg Ellis, Rainer Glas, and Eero Hämeenniemi of jazz and world music genres.

Besides performing regularly with reputed Jazz groups like Australian Art Orchestra, Universal World music ensemble and Noisy Mama, Suresh composes in world music and jazz tradition and works meticulously to bring in the European, African and Latin American traditions of rhythm and melody into the Indian soil.

Suresh also has composed and performed music for ballets and regularly works with reputed dancers of many genres giving new rhythmic dimension to their works. Recently he has added another feather to his cap by performing in the trendy album “So beautiful or so what” of Sir Paul Simon.

A master degree holder in Rhythmology, He is also frequently invited by Universities worldwide to give workshops and clinics.
